What you can do to save the Point Reyes Fallow and Axis Deer
Friends of the White Deer is made possible by a combination of the efforts of
individuals and groups who share the belief that humane management, not extermination,
is the solution to caring for the Fallow and Axis Deer of Point Reyes.
If you have a talent or a special skill that you believe will contribute to the
efforts being made by Friends of the White Deer, we are eager to hear from you. At
present, we have a great need of people with the following special abilities or
experience:
- Photographers and Filmmakers - We need powerful, beautiful imagery of the
deer in both motion and still formats. Are you good with cameras? Do you make good
videos? Friends of the White Deer wishes to collect a body of visual documentation
that they can present to the media and to the public to further awareness of the
deer. We have a present need for good photos of Axis Deer, in particular, as at
present most of our lovely photos are of Fallow Deer.
- Contacts with Sympathetic Media - Do you have a special relationship with
a member of print, radio, or television media? Do you feel called to contribute to
the effort to save the deer? Friends of the White Deer are actively seeking friends
in the media who will lend their skills to spread the message to manage, not
exterminate the deer.
- Sympathetic Political Contacts - Friends of the White Deer believes that
true changes in policy will only be able to happen at the political level. If you
have experience with effectively presenting controversial community issues to elected
officials, we would like to hear from you. Our greatest hope lies in speaking to
the heart of an elected official who can bring the attention to the Point Reyes deer
that this issue desperately needs.
- Talented, Passionate, and Educated Writers - Friends of the White Deer
accepts article submissions for consideration from the general public. If you have
something special to add to the body of writing we are gathering here on our website,
please let us know. Whether you choose to write from a scientific standpoint or
simply about a personal experience you have had with the Point Reyes Fallow and Axis
Deer, all quality articles will be carefully reviewed. Please fill out our
Contact Form
to submit your article.

Friends of the White Deer need financial support in order to run educational
advertising campaigns that teach locals and visitors about the importance of the
Fallow and Axis Deer. We will be holding essay and art contests for local children
who wish to express their love of the deer, and prizes for these contests will be
awarded from the Friends of the White Deer Fund. We will be hiring photographers and
film technicians in order to visually document the beautiful deer. Films and photos
will be put at the disposal of media and educators with the intention of raising
public awareness about the special value of the deer.
Friends of the White Deer are eagerly looking for your further suggestions for
spreading our message of humane protection of the deer. If you have a great idea,
or an interesting resource to share with us, we want to hear from you.
Please consider donating to the Friends of the White Deer Fund.
