Elected Officials Write to Neubacher - Request Halt to Deer Killings
May 16, 2008
Thanks to your help, we have successfully convinced Senators Boxer, Feinstein,
Speaker Pelosi, Congresswoman Woolsey and Eshoo and Congressman Miller to sign a
joint letter which has been sent to Don Neubacher yesterday asking for an
immediate halt to any further killing. These elected officials have every intention
of following through with this commitment to us and our community to help with the
legislation to name the deer "Cultural and Historic Resources to our Community".
HSUS has agreed to partner with NPS in implementing an alternative contraception
management program. They have produced a scientific paper showing evidence that a
much less invasive method of contraception could be used to manage the few deer
that are left in our Park.
They have also spelled out the foundation of legislation to claim the deer to be
protected as a cultural and historic resource.
This is a huge milestone in the campaign to save the deer. It has been a long
exhausting journey, and we still have many miles to go. But let's all take a moment
to celebrate how far we have come.
The next step will be for the community to come forth with support for making
the deer a cultural and historic resource. It will be crucial that we all take a
part in pushing that legislation through.
